Green Mountain Power President and CEO Mary Powell joined Governor Phil Scott, members of his administration and other energy leaders on July 11, 2019 at a news conference highlighting state efforts to expand the adoption of electric vehicles and further the electrification of Vermont’s transportation sector to reduce carbon. Powell issued the following statement in support of the state’s work:
“We commend Governor Scott and state leaders for their ‘all-in’ commitment to reducing emissions from transportation. Transportation accounts for the largest source of carbon emissions in Vermont and that means in order to meet our state’s energy goal, we must focus our efforts on bold and aggressive strategies to make electric vehicles available to more Vermonters.
“The Governor and legislature have worked together to make important progress this year in helping more Vermonters switch to greener driving and Green Mountain Power (GMP) is doing its part to build on their good work and support our customers.
“GMP customers are eligible for $2,500 in rebates when they buy or lease a plug-in hybrid or all electric vehicle. Since March, we have helped more than 200 customers make the switch to clean driving. A big part of our work is educating customers about the value, benefits and practicality of EVs. Additionally, we are enhancing outreach so all customers know about the incentives available including a free Level-2 charger ($600 value), the savings EV drivers get in the form of lower maintenance costs, lower cost to ‘fuel-up’, and helping to reduce costs for all GMP customers.
“We will have information available in the coming weeks about EV test drive events and more. We were proud to stand with so many leaders today to talk about our shared commitment to a cleaner Vermont and beyond.”
