Poultney, 9/29: Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions to Hold Annual Summit

Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions to Hold Annual Summit in Poultney — Caring for Vermont’s Waters: What We Can Do!

The Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions (AVCC) will hold its Annual Summit on Saturday, September 29 at Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT. Caring for Vermont’s Waters: What We Can Do! is a day-long educational and networking event for community volunteers engaged in planning and caring for natural resources, with a particular focus on Vermont’s waterways.

Breakout sessions will focus on the following topics: Obtaining higher levels of protection for various wetlands, streams, and rivers; Protection and restoration of fish, amphibian, and reptile populations; Drinking water and wellhead protection areas; Social media for communication and impact; and much more.

We are pleased to have David Deen, former VT Legislator from Westminster and chair of the Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife Committee as our keynote speaker. Mr Deen will be talking about “Water Protection under the Golden Dome,” offering insights from his 30 years in public service.

This year’s Summit also features an optional post-Summit field trip with river scientist Shayne Jaquith from The Nature Conservancy: an afternoon walk to the banks of the Poultney River along a flat trail through various terrain.

Caring for Vermont’s Waters: What We Can Do! will take place on September 29, 2018 at “The Gorge” room in the Withey building at Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT. The summit is convened by the Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions (AVCC). For 27 years, AVCC has provided citizen Conservation Commissions with the support and resources they need to protect and enhance the natural resources in their communities while effectively engaging in local and regional governance.
